Every day more companies are going green, new renewable energy projects are approved, and stimulus funds are being handed out. Thankfully due to all the efforts to cut down carbon emissions we are seeing results with job rates and carbon levels. In an effort to keep up with the times companies are sending their employees to green workshops, schools are implementing new programs, and new Eco-Friendly companies are springing up!

We here at Green Jobs For Me have been happy to see receive hordes of emails requesting information on how to break through to the green economy, cross-training in their area and educational opportunities. Smart Grid.

I bet your first thought was electricity? It’s true finding alternative clean energy, maximizing its potential output and harvesting it are all very important and deserve to be on our minds.

But what about water?  Water is a key component in  life. With out it humanity would cease to exist, after all our bodies are made of 70% water. About one-fifths of all electricity used in California goes toward pumping and treating water and electricity generation plants use huge amounts of water for cooling (including solar energy). On top of all that Americans consume twice the world average of water. Wasting massive amounts in the household, agriculture, and landscaping.

IBM , which thinks a Smart Water Grid can become a $20 billion business by 2020, will be developing sensor and intelligence networks for water utilities, smart water meters and a new technology for water filtration.

Mark Modzelewski, Co-Founder and Executive director of  Water Innovations Alliance is confident an information technology based grid system could be put in place in just a few years and help the U.S. save between 30% to 50% of water used each year.

Water management can reduce costs and conserve water according to Lux Research and there is a wide range of ways businesses can get involved.

So, the jury is in that the technology to develop a smart water grid exists and through proper monitoring and accounting we can conserve our most precious natural resource.

Milton recently asked this question.   And, its a good one – everybody wants more money.   Green Jobs will exist in almost every corner of the job market, and like every corner, some jobs pay average and some pay huge! 

If big money is your main concern – solve a big problem!   The environmental crisis is ripe with big problems….

• How do you make solar panels more efficient and cheaper?
• How do you make better, lighter batteries?
• How do you burn coal with out CO2?
• How do you effectively clean drinking water for the masses

You get the point. 

The other path to big money is to sell big price tag items – like wind turbines or carbon tax credits.   Good sales people are always in demand and Green Industry is no different.

But you might also want to think about what you are passionate about – pick an area of Green Jobs – learn everything you can about it and you’ll find something that works for you.

Want to see Green Job opportunities go through the roof !  Help get the Climate and Energy Bill passed – write your state Senator.   You may know that the Waxman-Markey climate and energy bill—aka the American Clean Energy and Security Act, ACES, H.R. 2454 – passed in the House of Representatives last may but now faces Senate approval.
